Campi: A Bold Display Font for Modern Web Design

I was working on a redesign for a boutique online store selling vintage-inspired home goods when I stumbled upon Campi. It’s a display font by Intellecta Design, and right from the start, it caught my eye with its bold, blocky style. The all-caps letters gave it that retro feel that matched the brand’s aesthetic perfectly. I knew it had potential, but I needed to test how it would perform in real layouts.

Testing Campi in a Hero Section

The first place I tried Campi was in the hero section of the homepage. I placed it over a full-width image of a mid-century modern sofa. At first, the text looked too heavy against the warm tones of the image. But after adjusting the contrast and adding a subtle drop shadow, it started to pop. The boldness of Campi helped draw attention to the headline without overwhelming the visual.

On mobile, I noticed the font scaled well, maintaining its impact even on smaller screens. It didn’t feel cramped or distorted, which is a big plus for any display font used across devices.

Using Campi for Branding and Visual Hierarchy

Campi isn’t just for headlines. I experimented with using it for section headings throughout the site. It worked especially well for product categories like “Retro Lighting” and “Vintage Furniture.” Its strong presence helped establish a clear visual hierarchy, making it easier for users to scan through content quickly.

For buttons and call-to-action areas, I paired Campi with a simpler sans serif font. This contrast made the CTA stand out more, guiding the user’s eye toward important actions like “Shop Now” or “Explore Collection.” It also added a touch of professionalism while keeping the design playful and approachable.

Readability and User Engagement

One thing I paid close attention to was readability. Even though Campi has a strong, blocky look, it remained legible at various sizes. I tested it on dark backgrounds as well, and the solid letterforms didn’t lose clarity. That’s crucial for ensuring the font doesn’t become a barrier to understanding the message.

Another benefit of Campi is its ability to enhance brand trust. The vintage feel of the font aligned with the store’s identity, helping to create a cohesive brand experience. Users could immediately sense the tone of the brand—nostalgic, curated, and authentic.

Real-World Applications for Campi

Campi works best in scenarios where a strong, memorable visual statement is needed. Here are a few places where I found it particularly effective:

It’s less suited for long-form body copy, but that’s expected from a display font. For that, I’d pair it with a clean sans serif like Helvetica or Arial to maintain balance and usability.

Font Pairing and Accessibility

When choosing Campi for a project, I always consider how it pairs with other fonts. A common strategy is to use a contrasting sans serif or serif font for body text. This ensures the design remains readable while still feeling unique and branded.

I also checked if Campi supports multiple languages and had access to webfont formats. Since it’s a commercial font, I made sure to obtain proper licensing before implementing it on the live site. It’s important to be mindful of these details, especially when working on client projects or digital templates.

Final Notes on Using Campi

Campi is a versatile display font that brings a bold, vintage energy to any digital project. Whether you’re designing a boutique store, a coaching website, or a portfolio page, it can elevate your brand’s visual identity with minimal effort.

As a web designer, I appreciate how it balances style with functionality. It’s not just about looking good—it’s about creating a seamless user experience that feels intentional and polished. If you're looking for a display font that stands out without sacrificing usability, Campi might be the one you’ve been searching for.
